There is never one best Boolean String or one best site to source. We get the best results if we ‘combine’ tools and sites. Join us for a workshop where we’ll be practicing elements of navigating searches using the best sourcing sites and tools in combination.
The fun, fast-paced presentation will start with a brief intro on common-sense ways to select sites and choose and combine relevant tools, depending on target industries and locations. In particular, we’ll learn ways to identify if an association or conference site has posted lists with the right audience, and how to get hold of the lists. We’ll go over a few sourcing tips – such as uncovering hidden names on LinkedIn and verifying email guesses using Facebook. We’ll then proceed to hands-on brainstorming on how to best search for the targets that the audience (You!) will submit.

Google’s Custom Search Engines (CSEs) have long been a favorite tool for experts searching the Internet. CSEs benefit researchers in many ways: lessening the need for advanced Boolean operators; expanding the limits of Google’s search capabilities; eliminating annoying “Captcha”s triggered by complex searches; and providing a simple way for advanced users to share their most useful searches with less experienced team members.
Some of the advanced features of CSEs require a more technical background to take full advantage of, but anyone can learn to create simple CSEs that will make life easier for them, and their team. In fact, some highly useful, specialized CSEs can be built from scratch in a matter of minutes!
